Chemistry Riddim Medley

Monday, February 9th, 2009

Let’s hit high but smoother with this week’s medley, the Chemistry riddim. The Chemistry riddim is a sleeper hit riddim from Summer 2008 that originally went out with four cuts. It has picked up steam in recent times with a new cut by Richie Spice, “Street Life” in which he sings a tale of knowing what life is like growing up in poverty, and dealing with the harsh realities of street life. A couple of weeks ago it was still sitting at number one on the reggae charts with D’Angel “Stronger”. The riddim has been completed by another cut by Konshens added later.
In addition to these three songs, the medley contains, from the original four cuts, a combination by Bugle & Tarrus Riley and a collaboration of Junior Reid with veteran American rapper C.L. Smooth.

Medley Advocate Riddim

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

Advocate Riddim is this week’s medley mixed by Fyah Dawgs! Another mad riddim by Di Genius Records, Stephen “Di Genius” McGregor’s new label. It’s clearly built on his previous “dark” serie releases : Dark Riddim, Dark Again Riddim… Created early in the year 2k8 as the Eternal Darkness Riddim, it’s originally planned to be released around april or may. After no news about it, some thought it would never touch road, but it eventually arrived with some very little changes as Advocate in december.
As for the cuts, Mavado’s Money, Aidonia’s Tell Dem, Busy Signal’s Peace Treaty Put Off and Vybz Kartel’s Nuh Fraid among others are being played a lot in dancehall nights round the world!

Medley Baddaz Riddim

Monday, January 26th, 2009

This monday it’s Christopher Birch’s new Riddim, the Baddaz that tickled Higha-K Selekta ears pushing him to mix it for you.
This riddim is widely inspired by Dave Kelly’s Joyride Riddim from the mid 1990s (as is the recent Overdrive riddim), with some synths more and another driving bassline.
Concerning the cuts the Busy Signal is one of the best on the riddim, ending with it his very prolific year. Others remarkable tunes are Voicemail’s Nah Stray, Assassin’s Molester,…
We just could be a little disappointed by the selection of artist that could’ve been more interesting with some veterans like Bounty Killer, Degree,… to recall the origin of the riddim. Or on the contrary some singers of the new scene like Mavado, Bugle…
